Final

Final prompt

Signatures

Your Signatures for drawing will be due on your return from Thanksgiving break November 28.

You will have three 16 page signatures put together just like your other classes. You will then bind them in your 2d class.

One will be free draw. You can draw what you wish. That doesn't mean you will make sixteen five minute drawings.  These need to be considered and have time spent on them but no theme in necessary.

For one you will pick a theme based on something you feel you need to work on in regards to your drawing and then execute studies to complete this section. You may wish to do value studies, or explore hands in greater detail, perhaps you want to experiment more with ink washes.

For the last you will use in and out of class for the last three weeks of class. This will be used for thumbnails, assignments regarding perspective, and whatever else we may need it for. This will need to come with you to class.

Self Portrait in Pieces

Self Portrait in Pieces

Taking different points of view from various scales and cropping of the face and body you will create a self portrait from observation in a mirror. You will use at least 11 sheets of paper of different sizes. The smallest sheet of paper (unless otherwise discussed and approved by me) should be no smaller than 18 x18. The final product should be at least 3x5 feet.

Consider use of scale

Consider use of various cropping

Consider what parts of the face call more attention. Do they need to be smaller? Larger?

The pieces should not be attached and the spaces Inbetween each piece should be highly considered in terms of overall composition and design. I do expect negative space in between the sheets to be used as a compositional tool. These pieces will be laid out on the wall and need to make sense as a whole work.

The work will be an interesting, dynamic, well balanced piece.

Will you use symmetry?

Will you use asymmetry?

What does this say about your self portrait?

Consider both how the the individual parts will look and how they will work as a whole.

Everything that we have gone over in class thus far will be considered.

I would like these to be mixed media drawings using pencil, charcoal, ink, gesso.

This will take some degree of planning and experimentation. Start now.

You will be paired with a member of the class and you will present a written critique of your partners progress due Oct 24. You will need to have thumbnails and mock ups prepared experimenting with materials, layout/ composition, and relationships of images. This means you need to have started the project and thought it through by this point. You may not start it the night before.

Due: November 2
